Zoe Williams, DVM

Dr. Williams grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area as a multidisciplinary equestrian and has two horses of her own, a retired AQHA reined cow horse and a very tall hunter/jumper. As a life-long equestrian and horse owner, Dr. Williams competed with a variety of different breeds of horses. She grew up participating in 4-H and Pony Club. After obtaining her bachelor of science in Cell Biology from the University of California Davis, she worked at the U.C. Davis Veterinary Teaching Hospital as an animal health technician in the large animal critical care unit. Dr. Williams graduated from Michigan State University with her DVM and a PhD in Comparative Medicine and Integrative Biology. She has a special research interest in equine neuromuscular disorders and their comparative diseases in humans and other species. Her PhD research investigated the characteristics, etiology, and possible treatments of Myofibrillar Myopathy in Warmblood horses. Dr. Williams has published 5 first-author publications and been a co-author on 4 more. She is the recipient of numerous scholarships and grants including the Foundation for the Horse & Coyote Rock Ranch Scholarship, AQHA Margaret A. Haines Telephony Scholarship, and a National Institutes of Health T-32 grant. Dr. Williams is also certified in veterinary medical acupuncture and thermography. Her practice interests include sports medicine and rehabilitation, internal medicine, and neonatal care. When not at the barn for work or recreation, Dr. Williams enjoys volunteering at community outreach events, playing woodwind instruments, and exploring the outdoors.
