Jairo A. Perez Aya, DVM, DACVS-LA

Dr. Perez earned his undergraduate degree in Animal Science from the University of Florida. During his studies, he worked as a large animal technician at the university’s Large Animal Hospital, igniting his passion for surgery.

He graduated from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine and completed his clinical year at Texas A&M. Following veterinary school, he undertook a surgical internship at Hagyard Equine Medical Institute in Lexington, KY. He then completed a rotating internship and a fellowship in surgery, emergency, and critical care at Marion DuPont Scott Equine Medical Center in Leesburg, VA. Subsequently, he pursued a clinical fellowship at Oregon State University.

Dr. Perez completed his large animal surgical residency at the University of Pennsylvania’s New Bolton Center. His training encompassed fracture repair, lameness, upper airway surgery, and emergency abdominal surgery across all large animal species. His research interests include colic, antimicrobial prophylaxis, and postoperative complications.

In his spare time, Dr. Perez enjoys playing soccer, volleyball, weightlifting, hiking, and traveling. He aims to visit as many countries as possible. Dr. Perez is excited to move to Colorado and join the LEMC family
