Ophthalmology

Our facilities and doctors are able to assist you with all of your equine ophthalmology needs. For the convenience of our clients and patients, we have the ability to consult directly with Dr. Martabano, a board-certified veterinary ophthalmologist, to ensure the correct treatment plan is in place for your horse in instances where your horse cannot see Dr. Martabano right away. Dr. Martabano sees cases and performs surgeries at Littleton Equine once to twice monthly.

The range of ophthalmology services performed at Littleton Equine Medical Center include:

  •  Diagnosis and management of corneal ulcerations including placement of eye treatment systems
  • Medical and surgical treatment of Equine Recurrent Uveitis (ERU) including cyclosporine implant placement and intravitreal low-dose gentamicin injection
  • Surgical treatment of eyelid and corneal squamous cell carcinoma
  • Medical and surgical treatment of immune mediated corneal disease
  • Management of conjunctivitis, allergies and glaucoma 
  • Ophthalmic pre-purchase examinations.
