Peyton Atkins, DVM
Dr. Peyton Atkins grew up in the small town of Goshen, New York. As the daughter of a small animal veterinarian, she was exposed to veterinary medicine from a young age. Her love for horses started when she began riding with her mom and continued until college. Goshen is home to the oldest standardbred racehorse track in the country, so she continued her love for horses by watching races and shadowing track veterinarians. In addition to many equine externships jobs, Dr. Atkins worked at a therapeutic horseback riding farm during her undergraduate training, where she assisted children and adults with disabilities in various therapeutics and horseback riding.
Dr. Atkins received her Bachelor’s degree in biology and biotechnology at Endicott College in Beverly, Massachusetts where she also played collegiate softball. Following her time at Endicott, she graduated from Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine with her doctorate degree.
Dr. Atkins’ veterinary interests include surgery, sports medicine, and emergency work, especially colics and lacerations. In her free time, she stays active by hiking, snowboarding, wakeboarding, and going to the gym. She also enjoys settling down with a good book and taking care of her plant children.
